Enhancing Our Support for Additional File Formats

October 28, 2010

Many of us here at BetterLesson got our start in the classroom planning lessons and units with the familiar suite of desktop office applications like Microsoft Word and Powerpoint. And these were among the first types of files we supported for teachers to upload to their BetterLesson curricula. In the past year, we’ve received tons of feedback from you asking that we support a wider range of file types for upload. Here’s a sample of what we’ve heard:

It would be nice to have teaching aid or projector, or even flipchart, notebook, or powerpoint as an option. — Music teacher from Georgia

I am trying to upload videos onto BetterLesson (recorded of a flip video device) but it is not letting me do this. — English teacher from DC

I have some podcasts and general audio files (MP4, MP3) – how can I upload these? — Science teacher from Alabama

I have some materials that I have made through Publisher, and I want to share it. — Math teacher from Connecticut

Hi! I wanted to know if you offer the option for uploading Promethean ActivBoard flipcharts? — Math teacher from Georgia

In response to your requests, we’ve started to support dozens of new file types, including those requested above and Open Office XML extensions like .docx, .pptx and .xlsx.

If you’re using any new file types on the site, let us know how they are working with features like upload, drag-and-drop and download. And tell us if there are other file formats out there that you’d like to see us support.
